How am I funding my training?

As some people may or may not be aware it isn't cheap to get hold of a HGV licence in the UK. To get a class 2 licence you are looking in the realm of £1700-£1900 for all the training and the tests. So yeah it isn't cheap at all.

What I have been able to do is because I am unemployed I have been able to apply to the DWP to get funding from the UK government to pay for my training.

It is a long and slow process but I have started it and am currently awaiting for the decision to see if I have been able to unlock the funding.

I have been told that it can take in the region of 8-10 weeks for a decision to be made on if I will get the training funded, so fingers crossed.

Who am I?

 

My name is Phil. I am currently in the process of trying to get my HGV class 2 licence.

Why am I doing this well that is a reasonable question. I have been a web software developer for over 8 years. It was a fun industry to work in and I used to enjoy my job but with stuff that has been going on around the world my feelings towards the job had changed.

With the stress and pressure that was being put on me at work it caused me to have a breakdown and burnout. This resulted in the company that I worked for making me redundant.

It was at that point that I had a talk with me wife and made a decision that I wanted to chase a new career. I have had for some time an interest in driving trucks. I am one of the many players of ETS2 (Euro Truck Simulator 2) and I know from playing it that I feel I would love driving trucks for a living.

So that is when I have decided to pull the trigger and start the process on trying to get my class 2 licence.

So I have started this blog to document my progress into trying to get my licence and getting into the industry.
